Diamond is struggling to find herself in a town designed to make her feel unwelcome. Since her father’s disappearance, she’s the only Black resident. Her mother…well, it’s complicated. Diamond’s weight is a struggle (at least to the other teens). And, her weirdness is a badge she tries to wear courageously.

How does this all come together? You’ll have to read it yourself but, just so you know, this is a coming of age story destined to be a classic. Secrets and lies, hurt and hope, resilience, recognition, some terribly complicated history and even a bit of humor.

This is definitely one to discuss.
